To the Reid Family In 2009, the Reid family, founders of the original outdoor antique show in Brimfield, Massachusetts will celebrate their 50th year anniversary. Mr. Gordon Reid Sr. created the first outdoor Brimfield show with sixty-seven dealers exhibiting in a large field behind his home in September 1959. J&J Promotions holding their show on the original Auction Acres continue the 4th generation of their family operated show. From 1959 till the late 1970's Auction Acres was the Brimfield Show. Thanks to the Reid Family the Brimfield event has grown to some 20 plus shows along a one-mile stretch on Route 20 in this small Central Massachusetts community. The Community, the Brimfield Show Promoters Association, and Brimfield.com extend very special congratulations to The Reid Family for what has grown to be the largest outdoor antiques event in New England, and we believe in the U.S. A.
JUST IN: CNN.com/travel: Shopping the world's greatest flea markets My roster of what I consider to be the 10 greatest markets in the world depends upon a highly personal interpretation of "Great." Though some of my picks are vast and encompass thousands of vendors (the thrice-yearly Brimfield. Massachusetts, extravaganza, for example, has fully 6,000 dealers on hand!); others are consistently good - not to mention picturesque. Travel + Leisure by Lynn Yaeger -- March 31, 2009
